Pageant Information

Entry fee:

$30 (non-refundable). Please mail registration, entry fee, and proof of age (copy of birth certificate or driver�s license). Registrations will be accepted through September 14th. Proof of age is mandatory for all ages. Make checks payable to Chilhowie Apple Festival. The pageant will be open to the public for $5. Children 5 and under admitted free.

Rules:

Pageants are open to contestants aged 0-19, unmarried, never have been married, and childless. They must live in Smyth, Wythe, Russell, Grayson, Tazewell, Bland or Washington Counties in VA or the City of Bristol, VA. Only biological females (as stated on the birth certificate) are eligible to participate in the paeant. Those crowned Queen in 2022 will not be permitted to participate if still in the same age group. Hair pieces, flippers, or any other false accessories will not be permitted. The top 5 contestants in the Miss category will be required to answer an on-stage question. Contestants in Baby and Wee Miss will be allowed two female parents/guardians in the dressing room. All other contestants will be allowed one. Queens of each category and the Miss Apple Festival finalists will be required to ride in the Apple Festival Parade on Saturday, September 23. They are asked to wear their pageant dresses, crowns, and sashes (no tennis shoes). One parent is permitted to ride with the Baby through Little Miss Queens. The crowning of Miss Apple Festival will at begin at 1 p.m. at the Chilhowie High School football stadium. If any Queen cannot fulfill her duty, the crown and title will be given to the 1st runner up of her division, and prize money must be returned. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Contestants displaying such behavior will be disqualified without a refund. All decisions are final and score sheets will not be given out.

Time:

The first pageant of each group will begin at the scheduled time. The following pageants will begin immediately after the conclusion of the age group before (approximate 20-minute pageants).

Attire:

Contestants in Baby through Young Miss pageants may wear long, short, party, or formal dresses. Contestants in Pre-Teen through Miss Pageants must wear long, formal gowns. An additional round of Casual Wear will be added this year for the Junior Miss and Miss categories, however, no blue jeans or blue jean skirts are permitted in this round.

Awards:

A queen and 4 runners-up will be chosen from each category. The queen will receive a crown, trophy, and sash. The runners-up will receive a trophy. All contestants in Baby Miss through Little Miss will receive a participation trophy. The Miss Queen will also receive $250. The Miss Queen will be eligible to participate in the Miss Virginia State Fair Association pageant at her own expense.

People's Choice Awards:

There will be three People's Choice awards given - Baby-Tiny Miss group, Little Miss-Young Miss group, and Pre-Teen Miss-Miss group. Each vote will cost $1.00. The winner of each People's Choice will be announced after that group and the winner of each group will receive a prize.

Practice:

An informational meeting and practice for all ages will be held Saturday, September 14th, at the Chilhowie High School Auditorium Stage. Baby Miss - Tiny Miss contestants will meet from 10:00-10:30, Little Miss-Young Miss contestants will meet from 10:30 - 11:00, and Pre-Teen Miss - Miss contestants will meet from 11:00-12:00.

Portraits:

A private photographer will be available for pageant portraits anytime while pageants are going on for an additional sitting fee. Portraits will be delivered to the school systems for school age participants and will be mailed for all others.
